20% Project: Week 6

This week for my 20% project I worked on getting faster and more agile to get better with rout running and out running corner backs. To do this I did many different drills. These drills included ladder drills, route running drills, and cone drills. These drills helped me get better route running skills. I also did some other drills to help with hand eye coordination. In one of these drills I would be faced away from the ball. Then my dad would throw it. I would then have to locate the ball in the air and Catch it. This really helped improve my hand eye coordination. I was able to achieve all of my goals along with doing extra skills to help with hand eye coordination. I had no struggles with my project and therefore made no further changes.

Three Good Memories

I have three favorite memories from this school year. My first memory was during core class we got up and went to the sides of the room. We then got instructed on how to do a dance (I think it was related to a book we were reading). It was fun and it is still something I remember and think about. Another memory I have was during game day me and a few other kids were playing poker. It was really fun because the game was super chaotic the entire time and nobody really knew what was going on. My final memory I had was during PE me and a couple of other people were playing lightning. It was really fun because I was shooting really well that day and I ended up winning most of the rounds.

20% Project: Week 5

This week for my 20% project I worked on catching one on one contested catches. This means to be able to catch a pass while being guarded. This is a skill that needs to be perfected by a wide receiver because when a defense is playing man to man you are most likely to be one on one with a corner back. To do this I played a lot of one on ones which is when a wide receiver tries to get open while being guarded by a corner back. I also did a drill where I was turned away from the ball and when it was thrown I would turn around and have to locate and catch the ball. I am on track with my project and accomplished everything I needed to for this week. I had no struggles so therefore I made no changes.

Different Perspectives

The children in the image have very different perspectives. The child on the right seems to have a positive perspective. This is because he is happy about having one toy instead of being mad he only has one toy. On the other hand the boy on the left has a negative perspective . This is because the boy is mad that he doesn’t have as many toys as he wants instead of being happy about all the toys he has. The perspective you have on things can change whether your happy or sad. For example, if you have something fun going on and you have a negative perspective by thinking about how the thing is going to have to end you will have a worse time than if you think positively about how much fun the thing is.

Rad Reading – April

This month for rad reading I read the book A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. A Monster Calls is an amazing book about a boy named Conor who is living with his mom. His mom has had a disease for a long time that is making her have a hard time to do anything. For this Connor gets isolated from his classmates because everyone feels sorry for him and just ignores him. One night Connor is sleeping and at 12:07 PM Connor has a nightmare, but this isn’t one he’s had in the past. A monster appears in his backyard and Conner goes out to see. The monster tells Conner that over the next few days he’s going to tell Conner 3 stories that will help Connor with something. He then wakes up and his mom tells him that she has to go to the hospital for treatments and over the next few nights at 12:07 he gets told a story from the monster. That’s all I can say without spoiling the ending. I really loved the detail in the setting and character development. I also liked that there was a very interesting story so I never got bored while reading. My favorite character in the book was Connor because he was a very nice and likeable character. One quote that shows this is, “‘Thank you my boy,’ his grandma said, when he brought in the tea.” This proves that Connor was very nice for making tea for his grandma.
My favorite line from the book was, “Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that make those lies necessary. And your mind will punish you for believing both.” I really like this quote because it shows how it is best to know your painful truths and not try to comfort it with lies.

20% Project Week 4: Football

This week for my 20% project I worked on high pointing the ball. High pointing means to catch the ball while it is high in the air instead of waiting for the ball and catching it low. It is mostly used when a wide receiver is guarded tightly by a cornerback and a lobbed ball gets thrown to them. Whoever can high point the ball better has the better chance of catching it. One drill I did to improve my high pointing was having a ball get thrown to me very high up, and I had to try and catch it at the highest point I could. After a lot of reps on that drill I become much more comfortable catching lobbed contested passes. I am currently on track with my project and accomplished everything I needed to this week. I had no struggles and therefore did not make any changes.

20% Project Week 3: Football

I’m doing football for my 20% project and this week I worked on my rout running skills. I was able to do this by running drills where I do some sort of footwork drill and then go into a rout right after. I did this a lot and was able to make my routs crisp and fast. This will help to allow me to get open during games. I also did some more drills to work on catching and some drills to help with footwork. I am on track with my project and accomplished everything I needed to do so far. I had no struggles with this project and did not make any changes.

20% Project 2: Football

This week while working on my 20% project, I went with my dad to practice and I was able to improve and get better agility. I did many drills that worked on my quickness such as ladder drills. Next week I’ll be working on route running and being able to get open easily. I plan to do drills to help me succeed with quick cuts and turns. I can happily say I am on track with my project. I have had no struggles this week. Therefore I need to make no further adjustments or changes

Who to Invite for Dinner

There are so many people I would want to invite for dinner, but these are my top three: Deandre Hopkins, Jesus, and George Washington. I would love to invite Deandre Hopkins to dinner because I would want to ask him questions about what it is like to be a pro wide receiver. I would also like to ask him how he became so good and what he loves most about football. I would want to invite Jesus because I would want to learn about what happened back when he was alive and learn more about him. The final person I would want to invite would be George Washington. I would want to invite him because I would want to know why he decided to fight and rebel against the British and what it was like to be on the front lines of one of the battles.

20% Project Week 1: Football

Hi, I’m Nathaniel and I’m doing my 20% project on football. Specifically, getting better at being a wide receiver. This week my plan was to improve in the area of catching non contested catches, basically just be able to catch the ball when nobody is trying to deflect it. I was able to accomplish that goal by going with my mentor to practice. I also learned other things such as how to high point the ball, and improved on my agility by doing some quickness and speed drills. This next upcoming week I will be working on agility drills and juke moves. So far I’m on track with my goals and accomplished everything I had to do this week. I had no struggles this week and made no changes.
